Even through it's been away since I last made a post, I have been up to a lot of fun eats! The past two weekends I have had some fun new food adventures. Two weekends ago I grabbed my friend Brit and we headed downtown for a food truck rodeo. Food trucks have been an underground favorite the last year or two, but are becoming even more of a mainstream trend. Some people when they hear food truck think of something that may have E coli, but this is not the case. Most food trucks are just restaurants on wheels. Not dingy selling tacos or burgers from a trunk of a car (but I have to say you can get some great tamales out in Colorado from a off the road car stand). A food truck rodeo is when several trucks come together and have basically a foodie get together. It's a great, low key, fun time. In Charleston there is a group called the Charleston Food Truck Federation. They can be found on FB. The next food truck rodeo is this Saturday in North Charleston at Coast Brewery from 3pm-9pm. There is going to be 9 different trucks, live music, and great brews. I am so excited to try the Italian food truck Strada Cucina!! Hope to see you all out there.
This past Sunday I finally went to the Taste of Charleston. I usually am out of town when it happens. I dragged Rick and my girlfriend, Jill, along. It definitely should be on your Charleston Bucket List. It is a bit pricey, but a great way to get a taste of so many different restaurants. The other down side beside the price was there was a lot of BBQ. I love BBQ, but I felt like many restaurants had similar foods. Do not get me wrong the food was still yummy!! But it would have been nice to have more options. Rick especially enjoyed the beer garden. The cool part is you buy a beer dram and for each ticket you want to spend you get to have different dram of a beer. There was a great selection of beers from all over the local region. I am not much of beer drinker, but the commemorative dram was cute!
There was another food moment for me this past weekend. PF Changs has finally opened in Charleston. It is the hottest place to be in town. The young, the old, the hip, the family reunions are all going on at PF Changs. I called for a reservation for 2 people and took the earliest I could get, 9pm. When we arrived we still had to wait a bit and people sans reservations were on a 3 hr wait! Insane! But the plus side we got a free app on the house ;)
The great thing about food is that every weekend can be an adventure. Whether it's trying something new like mac n cheese with spicy red peppers at the food truck rodeo or finally having a delightful restaurant come back into your life. Make each meal about enjoying the flavors, the work that went into making it, and the benefits it does for you! Bon Appétit!
